20 XMAS Homework

Name of film?
Inbetweeners 1

Subgenre
Youth Drama

List title credits:

Film4
Young Brawk production
Actors
Title of the film

What type of title sequence is this?
This is a moving image title sequence because it moves through the air, to London and to Jay's room.

Who is the producer of the film?
This is a mainstream film4 film, and the producer of the film is Christopher Young.

What's the plot of the film?
The plot of the film is that 4 teenage boys just finished college education and they go to Greece for a massive lads holiday. However there is little introduced in the opening title sequence because it is Simon Bird narrating over giving us a back story about his family life.

Who are the main characters in the title sequence?
The 2 main characters that we see is Simon Bird as Will and Jay as James Buckley
The experiences we see them encounter is the conflict of friendship and when Jay and Simon have a fight and a couple of days later they reunite again and regain there friendship. They also encounter the problems of having a bad hotel and generally the character encounter one problem and another most of the time. At the end of the film the characters realise how much there friends matter to them and they show that by cheering them on and drinking and partying together.

What are the social groups that are introduced?

  • Teenagers
  • Adults
There are stereotypes of the teenagers in the film and the stereotype is that the teenagers will get very drunk and party a lot, however the stereotype doesn't really change but we can clearly see that the teenagers matured and found their priorities.

How do the teens interact with the adults?
The teenager interact really well with the adults and this is because most of the adults we see is the parents of the main characters, however in tradition teen movies we expect the teens to act very rebelliously to adults however that doesn't happen in this film.

Camera:
Most of the camera work is the mid shot of the characters in the film, especially when Will and his dad are talking, and also when Jay is naked. The camera is also a moving camera especially when the title credits come up and it looks like the camera is travelling through the air to the characters. They also use a panning effect with the camera.

Editing:
The editing that is used is a very basic sort of editing, they use a lot of shot reverse shots. There is also of course title editing and the credits that appear on the screen for us to the name of the film and the actors.

Sound:
The soundtrack that we first hear is 'Gimme Love' by 'The Vines' and it starts off really loud during the title credits and it slowly fades out and it completely does when we get to Jays room, that is the diegetic sound that comes in the title sequence, another non diegetic sound is the voice overs we hear by Simon Bird. The non diegetic sounds that we hear is the voices and and the natural sounds that are caught by the camera and not the sound that is made in post production. We hear the computer trying to close and the sound of Jay putting the glove on his hand.

Mise en Scene:
The colour techniques do change gradually because in the start the lighting is still bright but as soon as they go on holiday the lighting does even brighter suggesting that the main part of the film is going to happen right now. The lighting of the film while the guys are on holiday is suggesting that the holiday is one massive party.
The main setting of the film are;

  • London because that is there home and where they live
  • The hotel they're staying at.
  • The party house where they go back too to resolve the problems.
  • The boat where the film ends and the decision Simon makes to swim back to shore for his new girlfriend.
What are the main props of the film?
  • computers
  • clothes
  • the rape alarm
  • Alcohol
  • The boat
  • The coach that drive the guys to the hotel
Why do i like this film?
This film is very entertaining especially when they lurch from one problem to another and how they figure out how to solve the problem or deal with it. It is very relatable to me because I am the target audience for this film because i am myself a teenager. I also like the film because of the Tv series of the Inbetweeners which is also very entertaining in itself. This is a good example of a teen movie because it shows how teenagers grow up and become mature which also links to "coming of age".
